As a child I was fascinated by the story of Adam, Eve and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. It's a rather spooky story and when I read about it as a child, that fear was heightened. This painting is my interpretation of that story, in all of its splendor. The serpent looks down as Eve holds the forbidden fruit and Adam gestures with his hands not to take it. Fire surrounds them both and that symbolizes the fire of knowledge, the power of knowing what is not easily afforded to you. It is excitement, though one could also say that it is a warning of what is to come by way of disobedience.
